SEO stands for search engine optimization.
Long story short, when you search something, the search engine has crawlers (bots) that search millions of websites to find the best match. They look at the words and photos on your website to see if you are a good fit.
You will learn how to get the search engine to see you, and to recognize that you are the best fit for the search. Higher rankings on a search engine means more potential clients!
Keywords- This is the first thing that you need to think about when it comes to SEO. The keywords that you use should identify directly with your business. You want to use keywords that people would use to search for something, and long tail keywords (such as: Chocolate chip cookie recipe). If you type it just as the consumer would, you are more likely to be pulled up in the search because you are a direct match. So take a second to list out some keywords that you can use for your business.
Titles & Tags- Your title should contain keywords as this is the first part that the search engine looks at. You also want to have tags that fit with your writing as well, to help the search engine find you.
Meta Descriptions- There is a spot for these on every blog host, and this is another space where you should have keywords. When you do a search, the description that comes up is their meta description. So you want to also be informative here so that people can recognize exactly what you offer.
Photographs- The crawlers that I mentioned earlier cannot read photographs. However, they can read the name of the photograph. When you save a photograph on your computer, instead of saving is as IMG_639, you want to use a keyword to save it. Such as SEO for beginners.jpg
. This will help the crawlers to see that your photo is relevant. You also don’t want to use photos as the top of your post, as the search engine has a harder time to read those. You want your heading to be at the top with proper keywords.
YOAST- This is a plugin that you can get for your blog to help with SEO. You can find more research by a simple search for the plugin.
Note: SEO IS NOT FREE TRAFFIC. IT COMES AT A COST, AND THAT COST IS YOUR TIME. IT’S IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT YOU WON’T GO TO #1
IN THE SEARCH ENGINE RANKING OVERNIGHT. BE PATIENT, PUT IN THE WORK, AND YOU WILL SEE THE RESULTS.
